Tuesday ate soo many blueberries.
Aaron came after he got off work late and showed us all how it was done with the two handed "milking" method. He had an unfair advantage, he used to work at Blueberry Meadows in Corvallis when he was a kid. His personal record was 126 pounds in one day. When he was 12.
The blueberries boxed up and ready to go on a truck to a food bank. We picked 15 pounds together, so a little over 7 pounds donated. All of the people there that day donated a total of 1055 pounds.
Afterward we stopped by Amber's place - her yard looks great by the way, for some Los Baez Mexican food and a little bit of hang out time. More on the awesome gift she got me in a future post.
Tonight was my birthday dinner with Aaron. I requested that we go to Gathering Together Farm in Philomath. They grow most if not all of the food and get their meat locally. It was so delicious! We started out with a salad of mixed greens with blueberries, goat cheese and almonds. It was amazing how different each green tasted and how each bite was a new experience.
I ordered the flat iron steak. It melted in my mouth. They gave me a steak knife, but it cut with a fork. It was on a bed of smashed potatoes and surrounded by chard and beets.
Aaron ordered the duck breast with a marionberry sauce. Also delicious. Served with polenta and chard.
For dessert we ordered this marionberry clafloutis. It was mediocre compared to everything else.
Creme brulee with cherries. Absolute heaven.
In this picture Aaron has just told me "We should have brought a child cheater." Megan may be the only one that gets that. Aaron grew up calling spatulas child cheaters and did not realize that this is not what the rest of the world calls them until about 4 years ago.
More celebrations to continue this week, and most importantly, full speed ahead on coop construction. Goal is to be done by this weekend, but I think that may be too optimistic.

I should be asleep, but I have insomnia...so I'm reading blogs, and you just posted - great timing :)
I'm glad you had a good birthday! the blueberry picking sounds awesome. what a great cause and totally win-win! I picked blueberries at anderson's (and briefly at blueberry meadows as well, but not a whole season) as a kid, so I do the two handed thing too! but never did I come close to that many pounds in one day - Aaron, that is incredible!
oh! and was that delicious dessert a clafoutis? yum! what a fantasic looking meal!
(sorry for the book length blog comment!)
Let me just get this out of the way, child cheater?!?!?! LOL!!!!
Ok so we are so glad you guys came up for your birthday! It was so much fun. Tuesday didn't get sick, just had some time on the pot the next day :) That resturant Arron took you to looks awesome! I want to try it out.
Here's to a great year!
Wow, that is the coolest program ever. Give and get at the same time - perfect. And those blueberries look amazing too!
All the food shots look delish, especially the creme brulee with cherries! Yummy!
Sarah - That is totally what it was, thank you, it was driving me nuts! Maybe you guys worked there at the same time? He worked there a long time.
Amber - I'm not sure you are one to talk galactica joggins girl. You would love this restaurant. Inside you can buy all sorts of fresh produce and seeds they have collected on the farm. I got my favorite type of lettuce I always have trouble finding.
Suz - Yes, I hope to do more with this program. And the creme brulee was so good, I could have eaten 3. Then regretted it probably :)
What a great birthday! Tuesday makes a very good subject to post about... don't you think ; )!
Happy Birthday!
I have a friend doing that harvest program as well. It seems like a great program!
That dinner sounded fabulous! Love it!
Good luck on the chicken coop, will be eagerly awaiting the finished product pics
