Busy Bees

We have way too many projects going on right now. This weekend was a little crazy. We went to Oregon Country Fair on Friday, that is a post in itself. Saturday we helped Amber plant her yard, then went home and worked on the chicken coop a little bit. Today we ran around a bit and got a lot done on the coop. I'll post pictures soon, the walls are erected, but it's still got a lot of work left. I have my chickens being held so I don't have to worry about finding what I want in a few weeks. Add to this 100+ degrees days, which means watering both gardens twice a day and we are exhausted. It is a good busy, but it's always frustrating to not feel like there are enough hours in the day or enough days in the weekend.

I got my first sting today. Holy crap that hurts. I cried. Aaron helped me by getting ice, Benadryl, and anti-histamine cream. But he was also laughing at me because I cried a little more than an adult beekeeper should. I was sitting in the grass near the hives watching a bee drink water (Aaron made some bird bath style waterers for them because our neighbors complained they had too many bees in their yard). The bee dropped to the grass and I thought to myself, I should see where that bee went. Then Aaron asked me to grab something I had to reach for, my leg went down on the ground and I had immediate pain. I ripped the stinger out incorrectly, in my haste, and went inside to ice it and cry. The worst part is that it was the first bee we had seen using the bee baths and she didn't even get a chance to go back and tell her friends where it was. My leg is pretty sore tonight, and I think I have a new respect for all of our ladies! We are working them in the morning, I may not be as brave as I was in the past. But I do know this is all part of the deal, so I guess it was good to get the first sting out of the way.
