Man, I feel like I was just there. Probably because I was. I'm leaving Wednesday after work (red eye, ugh) and I haven't packed one thing. This is not like me, I'm usually packed a week in advance. It will be nice to see Aaron and take a week off work. My cousin is getting married in Austin on Saturday, so we are heading down Friday for the rehearsal dinner and to check out the area. I've been reading up, and I can't believe how many state parks are down there! I think we are passing by at least 10. I hope the weather shapes up, it's been thunderstorm after thunderstorm over there. I'm excited to take 3 days to explore that corner of the state. Aaron wishes we could take his new motorcycle, but he still only has his permit so can't have passengers. We don't have a helmet or anything for me yet either. Not that I need one legally...it's so crazy to me how many people don't wear helmets there! Kind of reminds me of the rather dramatic saying on New Hampshire license plates "Live free or die".
I think I'll go put off packing a bit longer. I'm not sure why I'm not into it. Hey Aaron, be nice like Megan and make me a packing list!

There is a guy in my class that rides a motorcycle and doesn't wear a helmet, when asked why (especially being in the health care profession) he explains that if he gets into an accident he would rather die than be paralyzed and potentially have to be in a wheel chair/on a ventilator for the rest of his life. I had never heard this rationale before.
I think that's how a lot of them feel. I think it's ridiculous. I don't know a lot about it, but it seems a lot of people get seriously injured, but there are also quite a few that just get banged up and the helmet saves them from getting brain damage. I think it's selfish, but maybe it's selfish of me to think that if I ever hit a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet that they could have been better off if they had been wearing one.
