It's Big...

I took a day off work last week and we headed to the state fair. We saw baby pigs.

This silly banty rooster: "CockADoodleDugh" It started out strong and gurgled out at the end.

Has anyone else done this? I LOVED this when I was a kid. You pick out your oyster.

They say "1, 2, 3 Aloha!" and crack into that bad boy.

Out pops your pearl! Black, yellow, white. Sometimes there are twins. I have 6 or 7 pearls from doing this when I was younger. I don't even really care for pearls, but they get you on the unknown excitement factor.

We caught just two of the timber events. Pole climbing and a race over floating logs. I wish we had seen more of these, they were fun.

Aaron made a new friend.

We saw some good art:

Went through the petting zoo.

And saw all the miniature horses. Now I'm not sure what the deal with these horses is, I have no previous experience, but they all seemed to have issues. Self esteem issues. Most of them stood in the corner and looked ashamed. That they were so small? I was definitely not charmed by them, and not without wanting to be - they are miniature horses after all. This beauty was for sale, only $500. Okay that was mean, but look at it!

We were pretty "eh" about the fair this year. I think we had a better time at the Linn County Fair. There were hardly any chickens, and it just seemed to be mainly people selling a bunch of crap. We were spoiled by the Ohio and Minnesota State Fairs I think. The Dairy Wives Barn did not disappoint however, their soft serve is to die for! It was actually the only fair food we ate, which was nice. I didn't feel gross the rest of the day like I would have if we had gotten a funnel cake as well...

um that horse looks like it has um issues. Trying to be PC. Like maybe downs for horses?

We went to the fair twice. I didn't get to do anything I wanted to do :-( Don't have kids. Just kidding, they had a good time ;-) And the darn deer in the petting zoo tried to eat us!

i haven't been to the state fair in YEARS. since college probably. i should check it out next year!

also, i love that pearl thing. my mom and i did that at sea world in san diego when i was in highschool. our pearls were the same color and approximately the same size so she gave me hers and my grandpa made me earrings (he owned a jewelry store at the time). i never wear them, but it's a fun memory :)
