I forgot how taxing school was. The brain has some pretty good coping mechanisms! Yesterday I had a really nice patient, 28 teeth, severe perio disease. Had the option to save about 14 of them, but opted for full dentures because of lack of money. Opted for full dentures! Wrap your head around that.
Today, after trying to sign up for my boards, and having the website crash. Driving to school worrying that I wouldn't be able to take my boards at my school...this means taking them possibly in another state, and finding the right patient, and somehow getting them there too. No thank you. I had a 23 year old patient who knocked out 3 of his front teeth 6 months ago, and since then has just stopped brushing because of pain. This is way better than what I was dealing with today:
He had rampant decay in 27 of his 30 teeth. It's going to cost over $7,000 to get it fixed and he'll have to go without anesthesia for most of it because you can't numb up tissue as inflamed and infected as his. I was afraid to scale anything because I was scared I would chip off pieces of his teeth. Anyway, I suppose that is enough information about that.

I wonder if I make my kids look at that picture, if it would help encourage good brushing???

How could it not?? And adding to Aaron's comment, if they could smell it, that might help too :)
hahaha...they're already having to hang out with my mom who has a slightly infected surgical site. Don't know if they can smell, but they keep asking to look at it. Silly kids.
I think the worse for me is the dirty, drunk, homeless, leg infection smell some people come into the ER with. It's probably really similar to that mouth. Oooh or the small bowel obstruction that is having problems so they smell like a colon. Always fun ;-) On that note, I'm going to bed, happy that I don't have to work tomorrow...
Good god!!! Where is my floss?!?!? This should scare anyone into brushing.
