Day 5, Thanksgiving
This is going to be my last post about Minnesota, I want to start blogging about what's happening right now. That being said, we had a great Thanksgiving together. We made everything from scratch and it turned out wonderful. We started with stuffing. I wanted to make a corn bread stuffing like one we'd had last year at my Aunt Connie's house. I couldn't find cornbread crumbs that didn't have all sorts of chemicals and salt added, so we made cornbread and just cut it into cubes.
Then we added Minnesota grown wild rice, dried cherries, celery water chestnuts, and onions. It turned out really good.
Pumpkin pie cake...so good and easy. Pumpkin pie filling with dry yellow cake mix, almonds and lots of melted butter on top!
45 minutes later you have a delicious dessert!
This was Aaron's (and mine, although I didn't have much to do with it) first turkey and he was pretty excited about it. He coated it in butter and a mixture of herbs, basted frequently and kept it in a tent until it was up to temperature, and it turned out really well. Granted it was just a breast, but I honestly don't know how people screw those things up.
It turned a perfect golden brown.

It totally looked like a fish after he cut it up for some reason.
Our first Thanksgiving by ourselves :)
Wheat nut rolls, cranberry chutney, cornbread stuffing, twice baked cheese potatoes, nutmeg muffins, gravy made from the drippings, turkey and pumpkin pie cake! Yum.
